New York Times: Print to Digital

For this week’s assignment I was asked to purchase a printed copy of the NY Times, which was a bit weird for me because I have not bought a newspaper in months since I adopted e digital version of the NY Times. Then I chose an article of my interest, which was “Apple Is Set To Unveil Two iPhones, Aiming Cheaper Model at China”. After reading the printed version of the article that was written in the Business Day section on page B4, I went on the only version to find the online version of the same article. The article was on the Most Popular articles of the day, however, under a different title, on the digital version the title was “Apple Is Set to Announce Two iPhones”. The most important aspect that I could notice was that in the printed version there were a bit more details on what Apple is facing and what the company should do to reach more costumers, even though the printed version forgot to tell the readers when the iPhones will be released, differently from the digital version.

The article main focus was the dilemma for pricing the new iPhones (5S and 5C). Due to the high cost of the iPhone 5 in emerging countries, other smartphones companies are reaching the consumer market due to their lost-cost and similar features that were added to their new phones. Even though the main focus is Apple, the article does not forget to mention Apple’s main competitor, Samsung, which is also losing space in the emerging countries market. Apple is expected to price the new iPhone about U$200 lower than when the iPhone 5 was launched last year, so that they can reach more markets and achieve better sales results than the previous quarters. It is also stated in the article the main features that will be updated in the new iPhones, better flash, fingerprint security and others are expected to be presented tomorrow and when the wait will be over and from Cupertino, California the new iPhone will be shown to the world and as predicted, lines will start to form in many Apple stores along the world.
